On this Day, July 24...

The penultimate day at the Montreal 1976 Olympics, which followed a ret day, was marked by three World record, all of them extraordinary in their day:

• John Naber's 1:59.19 for his fourth gold of the Games, a World record set at least once in the events he swam in, including USA 4x200 free and 4x100 medley relays
• David Wilkie's 2:15.11 for gold in the 200m breaststroke - the only event on the men's program that dd end up in gold for the USA

• a 4:42.77 in the 400IM from Ulrike Tauber, a member of the GDR team doped by their state.

The July 24 list also includes two standards set by Michael Phelps, the second of his eight 200IM standards and the second of his eight 200m.butterfly marks, the former at Barcelona World titles the latter at Fukuoka 2001 World titles.
