Kós Cracks Euro 200 Back Mark With 1:52.30 All-Time No 2
Day 2 semi-finals featured one European and three championships records among those booking tickets to Lane 4 showdowns on Day 3
The qualifiers for finals on Day 3 included three swimmers celebrating record performances:
- Hubert Kos, of Hungary, clocked 1:52.30 to smash his own European 200m backstroke record (1:53.19, 2025) and fall just 0.38sec shy of the shiny-suited 2009 standard that has stood for 17 years and 11 days to American backstroke great Aaron Peirsol. The championship mark had stood at 1:53.36 to a swimmer who was barred from international competition for wearing the Z symbol of Putin's slaughterous war on Ukraine on his sports kit at a rally in Moscow.
- Angharad Evans, of Great Britain, clocked 1:04.97 to break the championship mark of 1:05.45 that she clocked in heats this morning.
- David Popovici, of Romania, clocked 46.74 in the 100m freestyle to shave 0.12sec off the championship record he set in 2022.
The other semi-final event today, the women's 50m butterfly, featured the return of Sarah Sjöström, at the helm of pace once more.
