Zhang Zhanshuo, 19, concluded his campaign as the swimming star of the Asian Games with gold medals No 6 and 7 on day 6 in the pool, his 3:41.28 victory in the 400m freestyle rocketing him into the all-time top 10 at No9.

Victory made him the seven-titles star of the Games, after best times and gold medals in the 100 (4th) and all his gold-medal solo swims, 200, 400, 800 and 1500m freestyle, his tally completed by China gold in all three men's relays.

Zhang is now the fastest Chinese 400m free man with a clean record and the fastest ever in textile with a clean record, his new high shy of Sun Yang* but ahead of Zhang Lin and his 2009 best, now No 10:

That's a top 10 full of asterisks: five of the swims either have a marker for shiny suit or belong to swimmers who fell foul of anti-doping rules during their careers. Now No11, another swimmer with an asterisk by his name, Park Tae-hwan, of Korea, had held the Asian Games record at 3:41.53 since Guangzhou 2010.

Zhang Zhanshuo is the new owner of the Games record. He opened with his fastest 100m of the race, 54.56 - and finished with his second-fastest, while his first three splits were inside the former World record held by Paul Biedermann from Rome 2009, where the suits built what remain some of the fastest homecoming splits in history across a wide range of events.
