Two back-to-back World records from Gretchen Walsh of the USA at the World s/c Championships in Budapest this evening - first a 52.87 in her 100m butterfly semi followed by a 55.11 victory in the 100m medley - took her tally of global standards in 4 days to 7 ... a record of records the University of Virginia ace coached by Todd DeSorbo and team staff at the home of the NCAA women's champions.

Let's take the 100m 'fly standard first: a debut sub-53 effort among women, the time makes Walsh faster on 'fly than the World 100m s/c records on freestyle held by the then might of Franziska van Almsick, of Germany, and Le Jingyi, of China at the height of a crisis, and takes the American within a whisker of Swedish sprinter Therese Alshammar's four global standard on freestyle, a 52.80 almost 25 years ago to the day.
