Australia's Sam Short dominated the 800m freestyle as the Westmont round of the U.S. Pro Series drew to a close, his 7:45.02 win delivering the sole event record on the last of four days of competition.
The curtain-closer also included a 2:07.42 March thriller in the 200m medley from Canadian Olympic champion Summer McIntosh, to add to her 2:04.00 and 4:26.98 victories in the 200 'fly and 400Im respectively (see next story in this Vortex), doubles from Regan Smith and Shaine Casas among several solid efforts from other Texas Longhorn pro swimmers working under the guidance of coach Bob Bowman.
Short, the Commonwealth and Oceania record holder at 7:37.76 since taking silver in the 800m at the Fukuoka 2023 World Championships laid down his sixth fastest time and the swiftest 800 clocking in the first quarter of any year during his career.
