Summer McIntosh's High Five Of Solo World Targets The Next Pursuit Of Greatness

“World records are made to be broken. By the time I leave this sport, I want to make sure that record is as fast as possible. I’ve got to give my best effort to see how long it can stand.” - Summer McIntosh

Get ready for Summer McIntosh. The Canadian swimming sensation is smashing world records, chasing five world titles in a week and is the closest we’ve ever seen to a female Michael Phelps - and she’s still only 18.

After fourth-place at her first Olympics aged 14, McIntosh collected three golds and a silver at the Paris Olympics last summer, but she is just getting going. Starting here in Singapore tomorrow, July 27, the teenager will attempt something that only Phelps has ever managed: winning five events at a single world championships.

Summer McIntosh’s Solo Events Program - Singapore 2025:

This is not some overambitious plan, either, as his feature in The Times notes:

Meet Summer McIntosh, the swimmer aiming to match Michael Phelps
The Canadian teenager, who has cat named after the legendary American swimmer, could be about to match his five titles at a single world championships

McIntosh set world records in the 400m freestyle, 200m and 400m individual medley at selection trials in Victoria last month, and she is second-fastest in the world in the 200m butterfly and 800m freestyle.

And so, parallels with Phelps, who won five golds in 2007, are inevitable. McIntosh is the first swimmer since the legendary American to break three individual world records at the same competition, while she also set Commonwealth records in the 200m butterfly and 800m free in Victoria.

The latter sets up the most anticipated clash in Singapore.
