Scott Scares Commonwealth 200 Free Mark in 1:40.2 After Racing Inside Biedermann's World Record For 6 Of 8 Laps
The nature of the shiny suits was writ large on the race in Incheon today as Duncan Scott raced inside world-record pace for six of the eight laps before the lack of equipment performance enhancement told; Regan Smith sets America mark in 200 back
Duncan Scott raced inside World-record pace for six of eight lengths and gave his own Commonwealth and British record and the 1:40 mark a scare in the 200m freestyle on the last day of the second leg of the World Cup in Incheon today.
His 1:40.29 scorcher fell just 0.04sec shy of his national mark and the 5th swiftest short-course effort all-time on a day when American Regan Smith set an Americas record in the 200m backstroke 0.6sec shy of the global standard.
The men's 200m free world record has stood at 1:39.37 to Germany's Paul Biedermann since the last season of shiny suits in 2009, the mark smashing his own global standard of 1:40.83 at the Berlin World Cup six weeks before non-textile bodysuits were banned from the sport.
Frenchman Yannick Angel, on 1:39.70 in 2012, remains the closest anyone has come to Biedermann's bounce since.
