In the mix of all that, Dean and Scott's 1-2 in Tokyo was followed by a 1-2 at World long-course titles by Matt Richards and Dean in 2022. Richards was locked out of the final today when he finished third in heats yesterday behind his teammates. Only two per nation can progress o semis and the final.

All of the Brits named above, plus Britain's king of the relay medals count James Guy, the 2015 World 200m free champion who got married recently, are among those who account for two Olympic and four World long-course 4x200m titles for Britain in the past decade.

Scott, meanwhile, is an ambassador for saving lives and getting kids into swimming for safety and life-long health, for starters:

“Swimming is a life skill. I didn’t learn to swim to be an Olympic champion. My parents sent me to swimming lessons to be safe in, on & around water. That’s crucial for every child. School swimming is the only way to ensure all children have access to water safety skills & knowledge” - Duncan Scott
