Noe Ponti cracked the World short-course 50m butterfly record in 21.67 in morning heats and then rattled his new mark when he fell just 0.01sec shy of that in the final on the closing day of action at the Shanghai leg of the World Aquatics Cup today.

The weekend also saw French star of the Paris 2024 Olympics Léon Marchand claim a medley sweep and Australian Olympic backstroke queen and 2023 World Cup winner Kaylee McKeown withdraw from the 2024 series after one day of action, citing a need to taken a "well-overdue break".
