Kaylee McKeown, a 25.40 national 50m backstroke record and Australian short-course title in Adelaide added to her growing, glowing list of pioneering achievements, will head out on World Cup Tour in Asia next month a strong favourite for repeating her tour victory of a year ago.
An historic Olympic double-double in the vault in Paris, McKeown has warmed up for the Cup rounds in Shanghai, on 18-20 October, Incheon, on 24-26 October, and Singapore, on 31 October – 2 November, with a World record 56.54 in the 100m backstroke and, today, a 25.40 in the 50m at Australian short-course Championships in Adelaide.
The World record of 25.25, set in December 2022 by Margaret Mac Neil, the 2020ne Olympic 100m butterfly champion from Canada, lived to fight another day. There's a strong chance, McKeown will, at the very least, rattle it, on tour. Her bid to add the dash to her world s/c marks in the 100 and 200m will be keenly watched.
