Melvin Imoudu delivered the highlight of the Day 3 at the German Championships in Berlin with a national record of 26.57 for victory in the 50m breaststroke.

The time, 0.05sec inside his own mark from 2024, places Imoudu second in Europe so far this year, between a 26.51 from Simone Cerasuolo at Italian nationals and a 26.64 from World-record holder (25.95, 2017) Adam Peaty at British nationals last week.

The Potsdamer SV ace is coached by 1991 World 1500m freestyle champion Jörg Hoffmann.

In the Berlin final this evening, Lucas Matzerath clocked 27.30 for bronze and the second ticket to the European Championships in Paris come August.

Junior world record holder Malte Gräfe slotted in between the two seniors, his 27.29 also inside the European Championship qualifying standard. The German team will be confirmed after the last qualification event before the Paris showcase, with each nation able to select up to four swimmers per event should they wish.

Women's 200m freestyle - Gose In Line For Another 200-1500 sweep A Hand Ahead Of Maier

Isabel Gose extended her impressive winning streak at nationals to three golds, her 200m free victory following earlier wins in the 400m and 1500m. The 800m tomorrow is likely to make it four golds for the Magdeburg aces coached by Bernd Berkhahn.

Isabel Gose - by Patrick B. Kraemer

Gose finished a touch ahead of Nicole Maier, 1:57.69 to 1:57.85, and emerged to say: "I'm happy to be German champion again and just a little bit proud."

The race behind them was all about 4x200m berths for Paris: Nina Holt (1:58.11), Maya Tobehn (1:58.73), and Maya Werner (1:59.15) made the cut, but now selectors have a choice to make as part of what some may see as an over-complicated selection process.

Werner finished fifth but her heats time was stronger and she's ranked third overall in line for the 4x200 slot. The Magdeburger will definitely be in Paris: she qualified in the 400 and 1500m behind training partner Gose. What happens in the 4x200 remains to be seen, but logic suggests that all qualifiers will go and who swims will come down to the day and prevailing form.

Women's 50m breaststroke - Elendt At The Double In The Dash

Wold 100m champion Anna Elendt, who trains in Texas in a women's team led by coach Carol Capitani, was in a class of her own in the dash a day after victory in the there and back. Elendt's 30.54 was the only Paris qualifier and left those closest to her fighting for the minor spoils, which went to Lena Ludwig (31.45) and Klara Antok (32.01).

Men's 200m butterfly - Kammann Crowned in 1:56

Björn Kammann celebrated a dominant victory in the long 'fly final after having claimed bronze in the 100m earlier in the championships.

In 1:56.66, Kammann, coached at the University of Tennessee by Matt Kredich, was inside the cut for Paris and in a league of his own, silver to Marc Sauer in 1:58.68, the defending champion Louis Schubert third in 2:00.15.

Women's 200m butterfly - Riefstahl Grabs Win By 0.16 Over Baievych in Teenage Tussle

Chemnitz teenager Yara Fay Riefstahl, 17, took her first German senior title in a thriller with Alina Baievych that ended 2:12.42 to 2:12.58. Both narrowly missed the U23 qualifying standard for the European Swimming Championships in Paris. Defending champion Leni von Bonin (2:14.04) completed the podium.

Women's 200IM - Roth Takes Gold In Battle With Benkler

Linda Roth, of Magdeburg, grabbed a ticket to Paris in 2:12.47 a stroke ahead of ahead of Noelle Benkler, who clocked 2:13.14 but had already swum faster in a previous qualification event. Laura Sophie Kohlmann took bronze in 2:15.45.

Men's 200IM - Pock Takes It A Touch Ahead Of Bussing

Jeremias Pock broke the two-minute barrier for the first time in heats, and then repeated the feat to retain the German crown in 1:59.65, a few tenths slower than his morning swim but good enough to keep 400 medley champion Cedric Büssing at bay, 1:59.74 good for silver, Finn Hammer taking bronze in 2:00.44, all three under the European cut. =

Men's 200m freestyle - Sorgius & Bäschnitt Enter 4x200 Contention On 1:46s

The biggest guns of German 200m free speed - Magdeburg mates Lukas Märtens and Oliver Klemet, sat the race out but a tight tussle it was nonetheless. Timo Sorgius edged out Jarno Bäschnitt 1:46.17 to 1:46.50, and both will join the top 2 in the 4x200m in Paris. Rising Austrian contender Christian Giefing was third in 1:47.14.

Women's 50m backstroke - Podium Of Hoffmann, Kröger, Beierling Split By 0.08

Viktoria Hoffmann, from Lübeck, grabbed gold in 29.05 seconds, just 0.06 ahead of Lina Kröger, with Klara Sophie Beierling just 0.02sec further adrift for bronze.

Men's 50m backstroke - Passek Pips Braunschweig

Vincent Passek pipped his Berlin training partner Ole Braunschweig 24.85 to 24.89. Braunschweig focused exclusively on the backstroke dash at nationals for his silver lining. The bronze went to Fritz Dietz in 25.20, while Cornelius Jahn, on 25.29, may also get the call for Paris action.
