We have to trawl back a quarter of a century to Sydney 2000 before we arrive at the last United States women's 4x100m free team to have set the World record but Torri Huske's 52.43 U.S. and championship record in the 100m free at nationals atop a sub-53 podium with Gretchen Walsh and Simone Manuel will keep Eagle hopes of Dolphin defeat alive.

On a first day at the national championships in Indianapolis that witnessed a championship record of 8:05.76 from Katie Ledecky in the 800m freestyle (her and the third-fastest ever) and an upset victory for Stanford's Caroline Bricker, 2:05.80-to 2:05.85 over Regan Smith, in the 200 'fly, Huske produced the sole U.S. and Championship record in all finals.
