Luke Hobson, the American who showed his potential with bronze in the Olympic 200m free in Paris back in summer will leave the winter showcase of the World Short-Course Championships with two 25m-pool global standards in the event, his best saved for last: 1:38.61.

Nearest to the champion was Aussie Max Giuliani, who set an Oceania standard of 1:40.36, while Belgium's Lucas Henveau took bronze in a national record of 1:41.13.

Siobhan Haughey took the women's 200m free crown once more in 1:50.62, just 0.31sec shy of her own World mark, and drew Canada's Mary-Sophie Harvey to an Americas record of 1:51.49 for silver and American Claire Weinstein to bronze in a World Junior record of 1:51.62.
