THEMA - Deep Clean the Olympics
PART 4 of 4

Since 1990, we've KNOWN - not understood, believed or speculated, but KNOWN - that the German Democratic Republic (GDR/ DDR) operated a systematic doping program throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the fraud an official state secret called Research Plan 14:25 from 1974 until German unification delivered extinction for East Germany.

In this concluding part of our FORUM mini-series “Deep Clean the Olympics” at a time when leaders need to keep the enhanced wolf with a billionaire backer from the door, we look at:

  1. the IOC's long, call for evidence, and the prevarication, equivocation, tergiversation, deflection, denial and even paltering of successive Olympic presidents and their entourages, including legal advisors, whose old advice and fears are no longer relevant.
  2. a prime example of what's been out there for at least 35 years with no official acknowledgement, let alone action, from Olympic sports leaders: the network that confirms that every single women's medal won by GDR women in Olympic and World-Championship swimming is intrinsically and undeniably linked to the state doping program operated as a state secret by the East German government and related confessions, testimonies and documentation.
  3. why Kirsty Coventry can have the evidence if she wants it, even though it is irrelevant to what the athletes impacted (on both sides of the old divide) by the biggest heist ever seen in world sport actually want - we explain why its irrelevant.
  4. why the new IOC president should break the mould with an act of reconciliation and recognition Desmond Tutu would have been proud of, one that would not only provide relief from injustice and help the Olympic Movement to finally move on from an acceptance of fraud, but a unique legacy as the leader who brought the creed of great swimmers from the water/field of play into the realm of governance and sports politics: focus on what you can control, the modern version of:
"Freedom is the only worthy goal in life. It is won by disregarding things that lie beyond our control." - Epictetus - a Greek Stoic philosopher born into slavery in the first century after Christ, and who gained his freedom to became a prominent teacher of Stoicism.
