Borg was “made for swimming... with big feet and paddles for hands and a unique ability to float"; he was tough as nails too: the Miracle of Bologna unfolded hours after he broke four teeth in water polo, after which they went to a bar and drank wine before the Swede "swam like a madman"

Tomorrow, April 9, marks the 103rd birthday of the first of 10 World freestyle records set by Swedish swim ace and pioneer Arne Borg in events still recognised to this day.

The standard is part of a bull run of 32 Wold records - including the Miracle of Bologna in 1927 - at the core of one of the great swimming careers of a century ago - and throughout history.
